[Week03] Starting the production!
Hi everybody!
We have officially started the production phase for our game! This means we stopped working on the prototype and started making art assets and starting over writing code for the mechanics of the game.
Our progress so far
We had to touch up the art and tech bible before doing anything else, so first we got that out of the way. Then the artists in our team started producing art assets to bring our first level to life. We started off by making two simple tiles, a spike and razor trap, a health pickup and a character. Here is a showcase of what we have so far regarding assets:
The team's programmers started the project from scratch after gaining insight into the mechanics we wanted to implement through the prototype. We implemented the art assets made to bring everything together and test out the level design. We reintegrated the controllers and made new kinematic custom movement in stead of dynamic movement. This allows us to have more control over more kinds of movement in the future, such as gravity, running and dashing. This makes our movement and dashing mechanic smooth, but it also makes it more complicated to implement other features. We also created a timer for the game and health for the characters.
We have a lot of work to do and hard decisions to make but we're having fun!
What are our next steps?
By next week more art assets will be created to further bring our level and characters to life, with more tiles, pickups, traps, etc. In the meantime we need to fix issues with the movement and implement more planned features.
